Governance
The Union for Ethical BioTrade is a membership-based organisation that was created in May 2007 in Geneva, Switzerland.
General Assembly
The General Assembly acts as the main governing body of UEBT and meets once a year to elect the Members of the Board. The General Assembly is composed of all UEBT Members. Provisional, Trading and Affiliate Members have the right to vote and elect the Board of Directors, thereby approving the management of the organization.

Board
The Board meets twice a year and is elected by the General Assembly. The Board is currently composed of:
- Mr. Gus Le Breton (PhytoTrade Africa), President of the Board
- Mr. Marcos Vaz (Natura Cosmetics S.A.), Vice-President of the Board
- Mr. Pierre Charlier de Chilly (Aldivia), Treasurer of the Board
- Mr. Mike Brook (Organic Herb Trading Company)
- Mr Gaston Vizcarra (Candela)
- Mr. Gustavo Urrea (Labfarve)
- Mr. Thierry Cruchon (Silab)
- Mr. José Quiñones (BioTrade Peru/PROMPERU)
- Mr. Nicolas Cock Duque (Nativa)
- Mr. Juan Marco Alvarez (The International Union for Conservation of Nature, IUCN)
- Mr. Olivier Behra (L'Homme et Environnement)
UNCTAD, the CBD and the International Finance Corporation act as observers to the Board.
To support the functioning of UEBT the Board has appointed various committees, including an appeals committee, a membership committee, and a standards committee. The appeals procedure is available to download here.
Standard Committee
The Standard Committee is composed of the members PhytoTrade Africa, Candela, Friends of Nature Bolivia, Imaflora, Labfarve, Organic Partners, FSC and The United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD).
Membership Committee
The Membership Committee, whose role is to review membership application and to recommend approval to the Board, is composed of the following members: Candela, Silab, PhytoTrade Africa, IUCN and Nativa.
Secretariat
UEBT’s day-to-day management is handled by the Secretariat in Geneva.
