Provisional members are not allowed to make any claim regarding their membership to the Union for Ethical BioTrade.

After approval of their work-plan, organisations can declare themselves, also on product, to be member of the Union. The following claim would for example be allowed: “We are a proud member of the Union for Ethical BioTrade. Please see www.ethicalbiotrade.org for more information.”

More information regarding the level of compliance with the verification framework can be made in business to business communications. In clarification statements (not on products, but possibly on communications related to the product) or on corporate communication, the member might provide for example the following information:   “We have developed a Critical Path in agreement with the Union for Ethical BioTrade to comply with the Ethical BioTrade Principles and Criteria within X years. We are now in the Yth year of implementation and are complying with the original plan, as verified by certification body XYZ”.

Once members comply with the Verification Framework, as verified by a recognized 3rd party, they can declare this compliance in their B2B communication and corporate reporting, as relevant. Claims of compliance will be specific to a product, but shall not be made on-product.
